If you open a computer, tablet or cell phone, even from time to time, there is a chance you have viewed a meme. It is an internet certainty.
Memes are everywhere. Rampant among the global computer network you are reading this blog on, if there is a binding glue to all internet activity, it may be memes. It is in it’s ambiguous, broad terms that make this possible, in addition to being so addicting.
Memes are incredibly viral. Capable of circulating as quickly as an idea can be thought of, memes are shared almost haphazardly throughout the internet. Sharing memes you agree with only encourage similarly related content, showering you with an endless amount of pure memes.
Memes are hilarious. Successfully replacing the comics section of our newspapers, memes bring instant gratification. Who doesn’t enjoy a moment’s worth of scanning for a good laugh? Recurring themes, images and phrases only improve our amount of interest in memes.
Think memes aren’t ‘safe for work’? Memes are about work, too! While on a quick break waiting for a call to begin or sometimes eating lunch, I can feel guilty if I spend too much time meandering on social media. And it’s memes to blame. On the other hand, it’s nice to stay relevant with the times. Even if it’s regarding things seemingly unimportant, it’s a quick laugh we need sometimes before getting back to work.
Memes are relatable. While it is impossible to understand every meme ever published, there is something out there for everyone, which is hard to say about just about anything. They can even be used to promote a business.
We often minimalize the value of this fly by night form of entertainment. Sure, most of it doesn’t apply to ourselves personally, but when you take a step back to gawk, we realize how amazing and important memes are to our culture. So share that humorous meme and keep it moving.
